Mark Braunstein, M.D., professor of the practice at the Georgia Institute of Technology College of Computing, will speak on the emerging issues facing health informatics in a lecture sponsored by the newly formed UGA Health Informatics Institute. Join the HII and the College of Public Health Thursday, April 13 at 11:30 am on the Health Sciences Campus in Russell Hall Room 241. Refreshments will be provided.

About Dr. Braunstein:

Dr. Braunstein is actively involved with HL7’s development of the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR) standard and in efforts at the CDC to use FHIR as a ‘universal platform’ for public health surveillance.  He is collaborating with Open mHealth to bring their schema for representing data from patient operated apps and devices into the FHIR standard.  He also serves as associate editor of the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics.  He earned a BS from MIT in 1969, an MD from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1974 and served as a resident at Washington University. 

Dr. Braunstein is the recipient of the 1996 Entrepreneur of the Year® Award for the Southeast Region, the 1995 Innovation in Medical Management Award from the American Society of Physician Executives, and the 2006 Founder’s Award from the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce, Southeast Region.  In 2013, he was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus by MUSC’s College of Medicine.

Directions and Parking:

Parking is available in the Pound Hall parking lot (FREE PARKING - no permit required) or the HSC Visitor Parking Lot (PAY - $1/hr). Both lots are accessible via Foster Road off of Oglethorpe Avenue.

Parking in any other lot will require a departmental pass or a temporary parking permit. Please see the map of the UGA Health Sciences Campus to reference both the visitor parking lot and the seminar's location, Russell Hall.
