Alumni and Support
Alumni and friends of the Department of Environmental Health Science play a vitally important role in shaping our future. Your gifts will help us to focus on critical areas such as scholarships, endowed professorships, graduate fellowships, international study for students and faculty, and development of our research facilities.
Private financial support provides the margin of excellence that distinguishes good universities from great ones. With direct public support accounting for less than 40 percent of UGA’s annual operating budget, we’re relying on gifts from alumni and friends to provide support for students, faculty, facilities, alumni programs and other critical needs in the department.
Annual gifts to the Environmental Health Science Fund are unrestricted and meet the Department’s greatest need and you may give directly to this fund by using fund number 91714000. To learn more about other funds and ways to give, please contact Ginny Ingels, Director of Development, at 706/542-2590. Thank you for your current and future support.
Featured student support fund:
The newly established Randall Oliver Manning Scholarship supports an undergraduate student majoring in Environmental Health Science. Dr. Manning spent 20 years inspiring, instructing, and mentoring our environmental health students. The best description of his impact on our program and our students comes from two of his former interns in a letter to their fellow alumni.
Dr. Manning generously donated time to his students, teaching us, providing beneficial insight, and allowing us to develop into environmental health professionals. His warmth, sense of humor, and positive energy was infectious and inspiring. He recognized that the most valuable learning experiences went well beyond scientific data; he created opportunities for us to network and gain confidence as young professionals. Dr. Manning was a mentor, a southern gentleman, a loyal Dawg, and a true friend. Perhaps most importantly, he set an example that we can all strive to follow as EHS graduates and professionals: a unique combination of professionalism, intelligence, technical aptitude, compassion, charm, fun, and loyalty. Those of us who had the pleasure of working with him are better because of him, and our EHS program is stronger because of the commitment he gave to his students and his alma mater.

More than $28,000 has already been committed to this fund, and we hope that we can count on your help as well. Your gift will be a great tribute to Dr. Manning and will also make a tremendous difference to the recipient of this undergraduate student scholarship.
