UGA College of Public Health news and media mentions for the month of April 2024:

Andrea Swartzendruber, associate professor of epidemiology & biostatistics, was quoted in an NBC News report about efforts by a watchdog group to investigate how crisis pregnancy centers use patient data.

A study co-authored by Mark Ebell, a retired professor of epidemiology & biostatistics, found that antibiotics has no measurable impact in providing symptomatic relief from lower respiratory tract infections. The findings were reported by US News & World Report, Forbes, and other media outlets.

The Red & Black featured a study led by Yuchen Zhang, a doctoral student in epidemiology & biostatistics, found that a higher omega-6 to omega-3 ratio can be associated with a higher risk for early death.

A study led by MPH student Xiaolong “Chris” Hou found Black Americans living in near to the location of the infamous Tuskegee Syphilis Study were much slower to get their COVID-19 vaccines compared to white neighbors. The findings were reported by Futurity, MSN, WGAU FM, and more.

Christina Proctor, clinical associate professor of health promotion & behavior, was featured in The Red & Black‘s coverage of TEDxUGA’s 2024 event. Proctor took the stage to talk about her research focused on the mental health challenges faced by rural farmers.
