Students who binge drink might be hesitant to tell their grandparents about their drinking habits — but grandparents may binge drink more often than students.

A study this month by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that the 18 to 34 year-old age group has the most binge drinkers. But among people age 65 and over, those who do binge drink, do it more often.

University of Georgia experts are available to provide commentary on heart disease during American Heart Month, which is commemorated in February.
Heart disease is the number one cause of death of Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control. About every 25 seconds, an American has a coronary event and about one person every minute will die from one. In 2010, an estimated 785,000 Americans had a new coronary attack, and about 470,000 had a recurrent attack.

Mark Wilson, head of the department of health promotion and behavior in the University of Georgia College of Public Health, has received a grant to test different versions of a diabetes prevention program in workplace settings. The $3 million, five-year grant will fund a six-month weight management program aimed at reducing caloric intake and bolstering physical activity among employees of municipal governments in Georgia.

The University will begin renovations to three buildings on the Health Sciences Campus in the fall.
Renovations will include updating air conditioning and heating units, electrical and plumbing units, as well as creating programming rooms for use by the College of Public Health. Phase II of the renovations was approved on Jan. 11 at the Board of Regents meeting.
The project will cost more than $8 million, with $6 million going toward construction.
