The College of Public Health is comprised of four departments and two institutes. Dr. Harris has spent the last five years conducting research in the field of radiation toxicology and disaster preparedness. His work focused on the relative efficacy of potassium iodide and ammonium perchlorate as antidotes to radioiodide exposure and its implications on disaster preparedness.In 2008, Dr. Harris accepted a position as emergency preparedness manager in the Institute for Health Management and Mass Destruction Defense (IHMD) where his primary duties are in hospital disaster preparedness. Dr. Harris travels around the State of Georgia as part of the exercise planning team at IHMD and conducts regional planning meetings and exercises to help hospitals test their emergency operations plans and identify gaps in their plans that need to be improved. He is recognized as an instructor for Advanced Disaster Life Support and Basic Disaster Life Support through the American Medical Association and has also attained numerous FEMA cerifications in disaster preparedness.
