Educational Background

Ph.D., University of Minnesota

Area of Specialty

My research and teaching foci include patient compliance with medication regimens (www.takingyourmedicine.com), drug use in the elderly, health economic comparisons, smoking cessation, and public health. I am actively involved in using discrete choice experiments (DCEs) in a willingness to pay framework to determine patient choices regarding their health care. To date, I have examined choices related to use of imported drugs, choice of prescription or OTC analgesics, and patient compliance choices in the DCE framework.

I have been fortunate to serve as a member of the US FDA Non-prescription Drug Advisory Committee, and help patients, providers and regulators with the Medicare Part D Drug Benefit.  I serve as the Editor-in-Chief of the Prevention Education Resource Center (PERC) of the Association for Prevention, Teaching, and Research (APTR).
