Student Activities
Student Mentoring Conference Arrangements have been made with the Gerontology
Center at Lund University, Lund, Sweden, that would facilitate the
opportunity to study gerontology abroad. If you are interested in
taking advantage of this opportunity, please contact Dr. Leonard W. Poon, Director of the UGA Institute of Gerontology.
Founded in 1990 by the University of Georgia Institute of Gerontology,
the Student Mentoring Conference was formally known as the Southern
Regional Student Convention on Gerontology and Geriatrics and is now
operated under the auspices of the Georgia Gerontology Consortium.
Several University System of Georgia Institutions now co-sponsor the
Conference each year along with The University of Georgia. This
Conference seeks to provide students with practical experiences
associated with academic and applied gerontology. More information here.
Sigma Phi Omega Honor Society

fields.

Study Abroad
In special circumstances, students have the
opportunity to take a graduate level gerontology course at another
institution in a traditional classroom or through distance learning
technologies. Students may transfer one graduate course into their
Certificate program, if appropriate. Students must seek advance written
approval from the Institute of Gerontology before enrolling in a course
at another college or university which is to be applied towards the
Certificate Program.
Distance Learning
The Distance Learning Partnership in Gerontology is a program operated
as part of the Georgia Gerontology Consortium. The Distance Learning
Partnership provides an opportunity to share instructional resources in
Gerontology at the advanced undergraduate and graduate levels among
universities in the University System of Georgia. More information here.
