In July, 1965, the President of the University of Georgia appointed an all-University Council on Gerontology consisting of twelve members representing a diversity of institutes, centers, departments, schools and colleges across the University. Since that time, the Council has expanded to approximately a 45-member Faculty of Gerontology from 21 departments, and 10 colleges and schools across the University.

The Institute of Gerontology at The University of Georgia is part of the College of Public Health. Through the Faculty of Gerontology, the institute offers a graduate program of study in the field of gerontology, awarding students a Graduate Certificate of Gerontology. Undergraduate students in the Honors Program are also eligible to obtain the Graduate Certificate.

The program is interdisciplinary and contains sufficient flexibility to permit students to tailor the focus of their Certificate work to their particular interests. The Certificate program represents a recognized and substantial academic accomplishment, which a student typically completes in addition to a graduate degree. A student may also choose to enroll for the Certificate program only.

You may find all of this information, including required admission forms, in our Graduate Certificate Program booklet available for download here in PDF format. Please contact the UGA Graduate School for information about graduate admissions, tuition, and fees.
