GET-AGE

The Gerontology Education & Training Alliance (GET-AGE) is a statewide collaborative partnership that is interested in making more gerontology training available to those who work with older adults. If you do not require professional CEU or CME credits, several of our training modules are currently available at no charge on the web and can be found at http://training.geron.uga.edu. These modules may be of interest to family caregivers as well. In addition, some of our partners in GET-AGE also offer training. Members of this collaborative partnership currently include: Aging Services of Georgia, Georgia AARP, Georgia Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Division of Aging Services, Georgia LEADS, Georgia State University Gerontology Institute, and the University of Georgia Institute of Gerontology. Funding from the Healthcare Georgia Foundation has provided partial support for GET-AGE initiatives, including the Aging 101 for Georgia video released in 2009. This video, directed by Dr. Anne Glass on behalf of GET-AGE, provides key information about aging. The video, and accompanying resource list, can be viewed at http://training.geron.uga.edu. A free DVD version is also available. Click here for more information on GET-AGE.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)/Learning In Retirement

OLLI at UGA/Learning in Retirement is one of more than 260 "institutes for learning in retirement" established at colleges and universities throughout the USA and Canada and affiliated with Elderhostel, Inc. Begun in 1994, LIR in Athens currently has a membership of over 200, with an affiliated chapter in Washington, Georgia. While LIRs may differ in style, two basic premises define all institutes for learning in retirement: The members develop and direct the intellectual life of their organization and there is a well-defined organizational structure that distinguishes each LIR as a self-governed educational community of older learners. Click here for information on Learning In Retirement.

Master Teacher Workshops

The Master Teacher Workshops series was initiated in 1999 and bring together outstanding instructors and educators to share secrets of their successes in teaching gerontology courses. This series is marketed nationally in order to attract a diversity of colleagues who could both share their experiences and learn from each other.
