The Institute, formerly the Gerontology Center, was established in 1964 by an all-university committee commissioned by the President of the University. The Institute joined the College of Public Health in 2005. The Institute is charged to initiate, maintain, and collaborate in instruction, research, and outreach associated with aging and the aged.

Recent Institute Articles
We invite you to read the two articles recently published the Winter 2009 issue of The University of Georgia College of Public Health magazine.
The first is on the "Lifelong Learning" of Institute Director Dr. Leonard Poon by Lindsey Epperly, and the second is on Dr. Anne Glass's research in "Improving End-of-Life Care" by Christy Fricks.
