Doctor of Public Health: Application and Admission


Spring 2010 - Applications are now closed for the MPH program for January 2010. 

Fall 2010 - Information regarding August 2010 admissions is posted below.  We have migrated our application system to SOPHAS for our Fall 2010 application cycle.  Applicants must apply to both the UGA Graduate School and to SOPHAS (Schools of Public Health Application System).

Application and Admission

Applicants to the College of Public Health for the DrPH degree program must apply to both the Graduate School and to SOPHAS. Please see the two step process outlined below. 
 

Prerequisites: All applicants to the Doctor of Public Health degree must have:

  • A master’s-level degree in public health (MPH or MSPH). Students with other master’s degree may be considered and accepted provisionally but will need to complete the five MPH core courses (15 hours) prior to acceptance into the DrPH program. These courses will not apply to the DrPH degree.
  • At least three years of experience in the public health area after having completed a master degree.
  • Applicants are encouraged to seek a faculty advisor who will agree to consider him/her as their doctoral candidate during the application process.

*Students with only a bachelors degree will NOT be accepted into the program. No exceptions will be given.*

All students must have a masters degree from an accredited institution. Applicants are expected to have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and GRE scores of 1000 (combined verbal and quantitative) is preferred.

The application process to The University of Georgia requires two steps:



Step 1:
Application to the Graduate School

  • Graduate School online application: http://www.uga.edu/gradschool/admissions/requirements.html
  • Application processing fee
  • Two official transcripts/academic records from each institution where a degree was conferred
  • Official GRE scores sent by the testing agency (UGA institutional code for ETS reporting: 5813) http://www.gre.org
  • Letters of recommendation (part of the online application)
  • Application for Georgia residence status (if claiming legal residence in Georgia)

International Applicants - additional information needed:

  • Official TOEFL or IELTS scores sent by testing agency http://www.TOEFL.org
  • Certificate of Finances (COF) form
  • Visa Information

Deadline - January 1, 2010

The deadline for all required materials for Fall 2010 admissions is January 1st for priority consideration.  This includes review for assistantship funding.  Applications received after this priority deadline will be reviewed as space permits.
